What Are Private Truth-Telling Open Office Hours?
The commissioners have established in-person office hours, which provide private space for truth-tellers to share their experiences. All statements should convey individual experiences as related to discrimination due to Vermont state laws and policies. If you ask for a confidential session, the VTRC can provide it. This means that all personal information will be removed from your truth statement to protect your privacy.
Truth-telling office hours will also serve as an opportunity for individuals to learn more about the Commission before deciding to participate.
Office hours will be held at over 30 locations across the state.
What Do You Need To Prepare?
There will be a registration process prior to telling your truth-telling statement. People are also welcome to drop in, but to secure an appointment, the VTRC recommends registering ahead of time. The registration process includes:
- confidentiality preferences
- publishing preferences (social media, website, VTRC final report)
- support needs
- basic information about your identity and experiences

You are invited to bring your own support person or object.
What To Expect?
If you choose to tell your truth during office hours, you will meet in a private room with a commissioner and a trained honorary witness.
Your truth statement will be recorded by audio or video depending on your preference. The truth-telling experience can take as long as you need. You will have the option to sign or verbally agree to a confidentiality agreement to have your name and personal information removed from your statement.
