Effective Immediately, this VTRC is seeking to fill a 3-year limited-service Truth and Reconciliation Commission Lead Researcher position.  

The Research position will be a vital member of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, working closely with the three co-Commissioners, the Executive Director, the Legal Counsel, and Administrative Assistant to achieve the mission of the TRC. The Researcher will also manage interns assisting in TRC research. The Researcher will oversee coordinating and executing the primary research, documentation, and fact-finding of the state-sponsored abuses and injustices committed against marginalized populations. This research will culminate in a major report to the VT legislature, and the Researcher will be one of the primary authors of this report.

We seek candidates with records of scholarship and significant engagement in research of Indigenous peoples, black people, persons of color, persons of mixed ancestry, persons with disabilities and other marginalized populations. In addition, knowledge of social justice, Vermont history, and civil rights.

Doctorate, master's or equivalent historical or archival research preferred. Bachelors in history, Equity Studies, or ample related discipline will be considered. Experience doing archival and historical research is necessary. The ideal candidate will have exceptional research and historical skills and excellent writing skills in research-based reports. In addition, the candidate should be familiar with and knowledgeable about all relevant historical and social science databases and research reports. Cultural humility is essential in the success of this position and the TRC.

This position, Truth and Reconciliation Commission Lead Researcher - Exempt (Limited Service) (Job Requisition #50675), is open to all State employees and external applicants. It is a Limited Service position, which is non-tenured and authorized for a specific period of time. Limited Service positions are established for specially funded projects or programs.
